Interesting that I buy Sodium bicarbonate at my pool store cheaper than I can buy the arm and hammer at Sam's Club. So much for keeping it a secret.

I think people struggling with the angle grinders is a skill issue. After you have a decent edge on there it's really simple to use one of the flap sanding wheels to zip over it and super quickly add a fresh edge without screwing up the balance. Most of the time, if there's no large dents. I just slap a grinding stone on a pneumatic rotary tool and use that to touch the edge up while i the have the deck flipped over for a deep clean.

About 2-3 months after I started using the blue drop-in tablets in my toilet tank, the bluish chemicals started oozing out of the bottom, the place where the toilet bowl rests on the floor. Nothing ever leaked from that earlier. Once I stopped using those, things went back to normal, and leaking stopped. Probably the sealing rubber wasn't fully damaged.

I will tell you a secret, you don't really need to balance your blades, there is a huge margin of error with blade balance, lawnmowers are designed that way, you aren't gonna damage your mower if the balance is so close that you can't tell just from holding it in your hands. If you just do the same number of passes on each side with similar angle and pressure, no matter what method you use, the blades will be relatively balanced. But then again I always use American made lower, not worthless cheap pieces of Chinese made shit, those might not hold up simply because while the engineers are good, China fakes and lies about everything they produce.

The pool store I go to told me to watch using some baking sodas because some of them have ingredients that you don’t want in your pool.

balancing is SO important .. I fly r/c model helicopters . the smallest imbalance is visible . the turbocharger on a turbocharged engine has to be in perfect balance .

Not sure what pool store y’all are using, but this is exactly what they tell people….but don’t buy that expensive crap…you can get a 50lb bag of food grade Sodium Bicarbonate for about $25…

A 15 lb bag of Arm & Hammer baking soda at Walmart is $20. A 50 lb bag from the pool store which is also Sodium Bicarbonate is $20. Tip of the day....use baking soda by buy it on an industrial scale from a pool store and not Walmart. =-)

How about hardness, cya, acid, chlorine bases? The prescribed addition of bicarb should be addressed with a formula like- 1.5 lbs per 10.00 per 10 parts. I feel sorry for those who add too much baking soda, as getting TA back from 200 is quite a challenge. Also, being a pool store owner for 46 yrs, I have always told customers to go buy a certain amount of baking soda, but many today reply with "oh just give me your stuff"...a sign of the times I guess. Also- I inform all that "shock" is just a larger dose of the same strength chlorine. Superchlorinating with an unstabilized chlorine- cal-hypo or liquid sodium would be safer and at this point I would include a conversation on stabilizer levels and the need to keep that level down. Been preaching low cya for 46 years and I'm happy the world has finally been enlightened. ISO's are trouble! NY state law- you haven't been able to add 1 part of any cya (stabilizer, water conditioner..nice names), dichlor or trichlor to a public pool for over 30 yrs. I was warned by a NJ chlorine manufacturing chemist long ago that CYA would eventually become an issue. Monsanto and other kept things quiet for 40 years...gotta love that lobbying.

As others have said, at face value it would make sense to slow the water down and feel it coming out “hot” on the other end, but if you raise the temp 2 degrees instead of 1, but flow half as much water, you’re back to square one. Of course there are a ton of other variables, but it really shouldn’t matter. I’m just now messing with a setup, got a 22’ x 4’ mat on Amazon for like 120 bucks, which is a bargain from what I’ve seen (including DIY stuff). My biggest issue is controlling it. If clouds come over and the ambient air temp is below that of the pool, you’re now heating the outside air and cooling off the pool. My current pump is small enough that I can run it off an outdoor smart plug. I have a weather station that tells me temp and solar radiation, my goal is to have the plug trigger when solar radiation meets a set value (or additionally, if ambient air temp is above that of the pool, or a set value.) The home automation groups aren’t being very helpful with all of this, but I’ll figure it out. My biggest issue is that I can’t filter the water without running through the solar panels, which rules out filtering at certain times due to cooling the pool off. I added a skimmer to our pool and it has the ComfortJet box for the returns, PLUS the original two returns on the T and the control valve for the inlet - so I have two complete sets in/out. I’ll probably use the original small pump and plumb it to the solar panels, with the skimmer inlet and non-jet returns. Sand filter pump on the control valve inlet and jet returns. So skimmer and solar runs during the day, but I can turn on the sand filter to clear up the water or when I want the jets. It would be nice to use the skimmer for both, but I’d need a check valve in front of each pump and that’s kinda pushing it as I haven’t gone to PVC yet (and likely can’t as it’s gotta stay temporary.)

I wonder who makes the internals for these mowers. They all seem to have the exact same design, other than the external cosmetics and a few feature tweaks. The real deciding feature should probably be sales and service. When it breaks down, which it eventually will, who do you take it to?

Wire guided will always be more reliable. Trees and power lines will interfere with a satellite controlled bot. How was the precision by the edges? I’m assuming you would still have to do edges with a weed whacker.
